Whitlockite structures in kidney stones indicate infectious origin: a scanning electron microscopy and Synchrotron Radiation investigation

In this contribution dedicated to kidney stones containing Whitlockite (Wk), we addressed three questions, namely, the presence of iron in Wk, relationship between bacterial imprints and finally crystal size Wk-bearing infection. The complete dataset indicates that is not present our Wk stoichiometry. We also note for with a high, but sometimes low content, Wk. Finally, propose FE-SEM as diagnostic tool stone patients who have negative urine culture associated less than 20% by weight level carbonate apatite, no struvite. Such would represent significant benefit clinician. Dans cette contribution, nous étudions les calculs rénaux contenant la whitlockite (Wk). En premier lieu, présence du fer dans formule stœchiométrique de est discutée grâce à fluorescence X. Puis, abordons relation l’infection l’aide d’observations au Microscope électronique balayage (MEB) aptes mettre en évidence possibles empreintes bactéries. Elles montrent que le processus infectieux établi pour des teneurs supérieures 20%, ceux-ci ne pouvant toutefois pas être écartés dessous teneur. Finalement, l’étude entre taille cristaux et par DRX permet l’établir. Le message clinicien suivant : un patient asymptomatique, si calcul contient ni struvite, apatite carbonatée moins il convient d’observer MEB afin pouvoir écarter ou non infectieux.
